Getting people out of trouble and on the path to a resolution is Douglas Boyer’s primary goal. In his litigation and risk management practice, from the second he’s involved, Douglas sets his sights on solving any problem his clients are facing with the most efficient and cost-effective solution.
As a member of the Insurance and Risk Management Practice Group, Douglas has a particular focus on the construction industry and insurance defense. He represents clients, including insured contractors involved in construction lawsuits, and handles complex insurance matters such as major personal injury and fatality defense and lawsuits involving large transportation companies.
Douglas enjoys working with different trades as well as consulting professionals, such as architects and engineers, to learn everything involved in construction. His interest in construction goes well beyond the legal aspects, however, as he sharpens his own handyman skills in his spare time while exploring all the highly technical details of building.
In addition to his insurance and risk management practice, Douglas is a member of the Commercial Litigation and Labour & Employment Practice Groups, where he handles wrongful dismissals and other matters in the evolving area of human rights. He is a trusted advisor to health and other professionals, such as engineers involved in regulatory complaints and lawsuits, and he provides skilled defense before professional regulatory boards.
Always focused on the best solutions for his clients, Douglas has extensive experience finding solutions both in and out of a courtroom. He has appeared at all levels of court in Alberta and various public and private boards and has resolved many cases through alternative dispute resolution processes (ADRs), such as private mediations and the Alberta Court of King's Bench Judicial Dispute Resolution (JDR) process.
Well-known for his hard work and energy, Doug’s clients appreciate his listening and communication skills, as well as his talent for explaining the law in clear and practical language.
He takes his role as a trusted advisor seriously and takes ownership of the challenges facing his clients so they can rest assured every detail is under control.
