Marika is a tireless advocate. She works with clients to identify solutions that best suit not only current needs but also long-term goals. Calm and straightforward, she skillfully navigates complex issues while making the strongest case for her clients. She has applied this approach in defending shareholder disputes, participating in mediation, defending planning decisions before the Alberta Court of Appeal, and advising the province with respect to a major water management project subject to Natural Resources Conservation Board and Impact Assessment Act review.
Furthermore, she acted as second counsel on an appeal to the ABKB of the compensation awarded by the Surface Rights Board, and hearings on the AUC with respect of electric power facilities where she has worked on preparing written and oral submissions, witness questioning preparation and conducting direct, and cross examination of experts.
Marika’s experience extends to the preparation of application materials for the Alberta Energy Regulator and the Alberta Utilities Commission. She has prepared submissions to the AER in response to an appeal of reclamation certificates and regarding gas over bitumen matters and she has prepared a submission to the AUC concerning the calculation of line loss matters.
