Ryan Trainer is a lawyer with a practice focused on bankruptcy, insolvency, and restructuring matters. He is known for delivering practical, actionable solutions supported by responsive, personalized service, and for applying sound legal judgment to complex financial challenges.
Ryan acts for secured lenders, trustees, and court-appointed monitors and receivers, as well as insolvent corporations. He regularly advises secured creditors on protecting security interests and maximizing recovery, and values the dynamic nature of insolvency and restructuring work, where commercial realities guide negotiation and creative problem solving.
Ryan has acted as counsel in a wide range of CCAA proceedings, including serving as counsel to the Monitor in the CCAA proceedings of Sirona Pharma Inc. et al., and as counsel to the secured lender in the CCAA proceedings of Christenson Group.
Ryan has acted for secured lenders in numerous receiverships, including 14295846 Alberta Ltd., 1923846 Alberta Ltd., 2358573 Alberta Ltd., Lee-Siah Estates and Investments Inc., and One Properties Paramount Limited Partnership.
In addition, Ryan has represented court-appointed receivers in a broad range of insolvency proceedings involving real estate developments, operating businesses, and construction and energy-related entities, including 112 Street NW Edmonton Partners LP, 1109079 Alberta Inc., 1436126 Alberta Ltd., Allstar Trenching & Excavating Inc., BTB Property Holdings Ltd. et al., Careadon Corp. Citiport Development Ltd. et al., Dalmac Energy Inc., and Radient Technologies Inc. His experience spans both single-asset and multi-entity proceedings and informs a recovery-focused, commercially grounded approach.
In addition to his insolvency practice, Ryan is an active litigator in commercial disputes, where his restructuring background shapes his litigation strategy, with a consistent focus on recovery prospects, enforcement risk, and practical outcomes.
Ryan appears frequently before the Court of King’s Bench and has also appeared before the Alberta Court of Justice, the Alberta Court of Appeal, and various administrative bodies.
