McLennan Ross Welcomes Senior Immigration Advisor

McLennan Ross is pleased to introduce Brian DeMong, who has joined the firm as a Senior Immigration Advisor, strengthening the firm's service offerings in providing advice and assistance to clients on visa, immigration and border issues and challenges.

Brian served for many years with Citizenship & Immigration Canada (CIC) as a Senior Immigration & Visa Officer, and previously as a Customs Inspector. He served for several years as a Diplomat at a Canadian Embassy in the Middle East and a Canadian High Commission in South Asia. He is a Foreign Worker Specialist and, for the first two years of its operation, was the primary officer of the CIC Prairie Region Temporary Foreign Worker Unit.

As Brian indicated, "It is a timely decision for McLennan Ross to decide to expand the level of advice they can provide in this area. Over the last couple of years there has been a lull in the need for foreign workers, but with the economy heating up again, baby boomers leaving the workforce and birth and immigration levels not as high as they need to be, Canada is going to have to look to other countries to fill skilled positions. Employers need to be aware of the options available to them and the traps to avoid."

Brian will work closely with our lawyers to provide comprehensive advice, tailored to your specific needs and presented in a timely and cost-effective manner. Brian's areas of expertise include:

  • Obtaining Labour Market Opinions (LMO's) and working with Service Canada;
  • Obtaining Temporary Foreign Worker Permits - including accompanying spouses and dependents and retention/extension of permits;
  • Advising on the transition from temporary foreign worker to permanent immigration;
  • Working with immigration issues under NAFTA and other international treaties;
  • Assisting with the completion of Citizenship & Immigration Canada (CIC) application forms;
  • Identifying the best source countries for recruiting foreign workers, taking into consideration labour trade agreements, visa, medical and language requirements;
  • Designing and delivering bespoke in-house training programs for companies and their employees; and
  • Advising on general overall immigration and visa needs.
