Dan is an accomplished litigator and advisor to union and non-union employers with respect to labour, employment, workers’ compensation, occupational health and safety, and administrative law issues. Dan represents unionized employers in labor arbitrations on a regular basis. He possesses an extensive familiarity with the rules of arbitration, experience in a variety of industries, and the diplomatic communication skills that are vital in an arbitration setting. He frequently represents and advises clients in matters before the Alberta Labour Relations Board such as union certification and revocation applications, unfair labour practice complaints, strikes and lockouts, and successorship, and common employer applications.

Employers also benefit from Dan’s ability to represent and advise them concerning complaints before the Alberta Human Rights Commission involving a variety of issues, such as accommodation of disabled employees, sexual harassment, and racial discrimination.

Dan regularly represents and advises employers regarding workers’ compensation matters (disputed WCB claims, classification and assessment disputes, cost relief applications, etc.) before the Workers’ Compensation Board and the Appeals Commission for Alberta Workers’ Compensation.

Additionally, Dan has considerable experience defending employers and contractors in occupational health and safety prosecutions, providing advice on due diligence and other preventative strategies. He has represented employers and contractors facing OHS charges in workplace fatalities.

Dan understands that few things are more important to an individual than their livelihood, and few things are more important to the success of an organization than recruiting, retaining, and motivating a highly skilled and talented workforce. With this in mind, he connects with clients to better understand their businesses so he can provide tailored, pragmatic guidance to advance business objectives.

Dan is an engaged member of the Edmonton community. He is the Chair of the Advisory Board for the Salvation Army Edmonton, coaches for the Hawks Athletic Club and is a former coach for the St. Albert Ringette Association.
