Katie Hagan

Katie is committed to advocating for her clients’ best interests and takes a pragmatic approach to resolving client matters.

Her practice offers all-encompassing, comprehensive counsel on labour and employment matters, including employment-related litigation, employment standards, human rights, professional liability and discipline, and OHS matters. She has experience conducting and advising on workplace investigations and has appeared before the Alberta Court of Kings Bench, the Alberta Labour Relations Board, and the Alberta Human Rights Tribunal.

Katie assists employers in the drafting and review of various workplace agreements and policies, including employment and contractor agreements, confidentiality agreements, restrictive covenants, remote work policies, and violence and harassment policies. Katie also has a growing privacy practice, where she assists employers in responding to privacy breaches and requests, drafting of policies, and ensuring compliance with provincial and federal privacy and anti-spam legislation.

Katie demonstrates the ability to see the big picture and simplify complex issues by asking her clients pertinent and critical questions. She strives to always understand the full spectrum of her clients’ needs, drawing from her extensive experience in management-side legal matters while working as in-house employment counsel for a national, full-service accountancy and advisory firm. Katie is efficient, cooperative, and responsive, and she excels at building genuine connections and trust with her clients.

Katie is engaged in both professional associations and the community. She has presented before the Association of Corporate Counsel – Alberta Chapter and to organizational leaders on various employment issues. She is also an active volunteer with the Civil Claims Duty Counsel.
