Webinar: Anticipated Changes in Automobile Legislation in Alberta
Mountain Time
This webinar will address the changes proposed by the Government of Alberta by way of Bill 41: the Insurance (Enhancing Driver Affordability and Care) Amendment Act, 2020, as well as the Report by the Automobile Insurance Advisory Committee entitled “Fundamental Report of the Alberta Automobile Insurance Compensation System.” Bill 41 and the AIAC Report have been introduced by the Government of Alberta to address increased insurance premiums and to reform the automobile insurance industry in the Province. After months of consultations with Albertans and stake-holders, the AIAC Report proposes a pure “no fault” system.
We will also discuss the recent Orders in Council in effect November 1, 2020 that have amended the Minor Injury Regulation, the Diagnostic and Treatment Protocols Regulation, and the Automobile Accident Insurance Benefits Regulation. One of the key changes to the Minor Injury Regulation includes broadening the definition of minor injury in an accident, making the argument possible that the definition can include chronic pain, TMJ symptoms or injuries and concussions.
Please join the McLennan Ross Insurance and Risk Management team in discussing Bill 41, the AIAC report and recent changes to the Minor Injury Regulation and how the proposed changes will affect the insurance industry and litigation practice in Alberta.
