Holiday Message 2025 from The Executive Committee
As we approach the end of another remarkable year, we extend our sincere gratitude to every member of our firm for your dedication, collaboration, and commitment to excellence, and to our clients for their continued trust and confidence in our lawyers.
The growth and accomplishments achieved in 2025 reflect the enduring partnerships we have built over time, and this season gives us an opportunity to reflect on our shared achievements and to celebrate the people whose contributions drive our success.
2025 brought many reasons to celebrate! We welcomed new members across the firm and reinforced our leadership with the addition of new Executive Committee members, Non-Equity and Equity Partners. We also welcomed a new group of articling students, whose energy and enthusiasm have already made a meaningful impact.
A major highlight of the year has been the transformation of our Edmonton office, where the first phase of the renovation is nearing completion. This milestone brings us closer to a refreshed and modernized space that reflects the future of our firm. Thank you to everyone who has contributed to making this exciting project a reality.
We take great pride in celebrating the recent awards and recognitions earned by our lawyers and the firm. Among these honours were our designation as a Top Western Firm by Canadian Lawyer, recognition in Best Law Firms™ by Best Lawyers®, and rankings in Benchmark Litigation Canada and Chambers Canada. Individually recognized for excellence, Timothy Mitchell, K.C., received the 2026 Lexology Client Choice Award for Labour & Employment in Canada (Alberta) - an honor granted to only one lawyer per practice area and jurisdiction. Additionally, Rebecca Silverberg was named a 2025 Lexpert Rising Star: Leading Lawyer Under 40 for her leadership in Labour and Employment Law.
It has been a standout year across our practice areas as the firm continued to make an impact beyond the courtroom. Our Labour & Employment Group in Edmonton partnered with CPHR Alberta on two high-impact events. Our lawyers also delivered speaking engagements across Alberta, including for the CBA, and the Environmental Services Association of Alberta (ESAA). These are just a few examples of the many ways our team shares its expertise and strengthens our connections throughout the region. We’re also proud to see our lawyers leading in the broader community. We extend our congratulations to Richard Wong on his appointment as Chair of the Greater Parkland Regional Chamber of Commerce, and to Vicki Giles on her election as the 21st President of the Canadian Association of Counsel to Employers (CACE).
Our commitment to community shone brightly this year as we supported and volunteered with impactful initiatives. Through sponsorships, volunteering, and donations, we supported the Yellowknife International Film Festival, NWT SPCA and the North Slave Métis Alliance in Yellowknife. The Edmonton Humane Society, Hope Mission, Children’s Autism Services, Connect Society, 124 Street Business Association, Fringe, United Way, Taste of Edmonton, and the YMCA are examples in Edmonton. In Calgary, we supported the Association of Women Lawyers, Trellis Society, the Brenda Strafford Foundation, the National Police Federation Benevolent Fund, Alberta Lung, the Drop-In Centre, Adopt-A-Family, and the Women and Wealth Gala. We also continued our longstanding support for youth development in sport as sponsor of the Alberta Junior Golf summer program.
We were especially honoured to receive the Legacy Award at the Calgary Drop-In & Rehab Centre Society’s Orange Brunch Volunteer Appreciation event.
Finally, we mark the retirement of Don McGarvey, a partner of exceptional integrity and commitment, whose more than 30 years of service in commercial litigation and class actions have been instrumental to the firm’s success.
This season is about celebration, connection, and looking ahead with hope and enthusiasm. We feel incredibly fortunate to do that alongside our clients, partners, lawyers, and staff.
